Puzzle difficult scale ?
How do we measure the difficulty of a puzzle?
I am working on one that is simple to solve, but there is a time factor, as it will (for most solvers) involve some time spent to locate the answers.

Re: Puzzle difficult scale ?
I would take the amount of time spent on solving a puzzle into the difficulty factor. What did you rate your Respect and Honor cache?
That is a great cache and although I knew right away what had to be done, it took time to do it and that should be factored into the difficulty factor.
If the puzzle was rated a 2.5 difficulty (I do not remember what it is but that feels about right), I would add an extra half star or so for the time it takes to solve it making it a 3.
It is really up to you. But if I had a puzzle that you knew what you had to do by looking at it the difficulty of figuring out the process (code, research, etc.) may be a 1/1.5. But if I had to sit down for an hour or so and figure it out by hand or do a lot of research, I would say that ups the difficulty of actually solving it.

Re: Puzzle difficult scale ?
I just went to Big Green and looked. We rated R&H as a 3 1/2.
Hmmm...
I think this one is about the same, except that you don't have to go to a specific place. You can solve it indoors. So I think I'm looking at a 3.

Re: Puzzle difficult scale ?
I kinda feel R&H is about a 2/2.5, but I knew what the cipher was right away, some wouldn't. So if this is similar, I would say you are on the right track....

Re: Puzzle difficult scale ?
I went over it, and found a way to make it a bit easier... if done correctly. I think most will do it that way. It's possible to solve in your home. I think most will do it that way. I hope I didn't make it too easy...
But I think I will be doing something similar, but more difficult, sometime later.
